Downloadable at once | Yes | For GDP, you have an option for "downloading complete tables" in a zip file containing a single .xls file with the entire dataset. For unemployment, there's also a table in .xls with many sheets. One of them contains the whole dataset since the beginning of the survey (2012). For population, there's a link (https://www.ibge.gov.br/home/estatistica/populacao/estimativa2016/serie_2001_2016_tcu.shtm) with the entire time series since the beginning of this survey (2001). |
Up-to-date | Yes | This is being done the 11th November. GDP quarterly data was updated until the second quarter, but not the third one (ended in september). Though we find it reasonable, since it will be updated in november. It is the normal delay in releasing this kind of data. As for employment data, it was updated until september, which is also fair enough. As for population, IBGE releases yearly estimates every 1st of July, for the current year. So, data for 2016 was already available. |

findable | 4 | I'm acquainted with this kind of data for at least 8 years, so it was really easy to me. Maybe it i not so easy for someone that doesn't work in the field. |
findable_steps | 1) Go directly to the IBGE webpage, 2) Search for "GDP", "Population" and "Unemployment", 3) recover the links from the respective surveys
licence_url | https://www.ibge.gov.br/home/disseminacao/eventos/missao | I didn't find something as objective as a "terms and conditions" or a real license, but I found at this link a list of fundamental principles for official statistics with some guidelines for publication and dissemination. It contains the idea of data provided for public domain. |
Collected by government | Yes | GDP data is collected through quarterly national accounts system by IBGE (Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics), a federal public agency. They are also responsible for yearly population data (census and projections). As for employment data, they stopped releasing the "Monthly Employment Survey - PME" in march 2016, which has replaced by the "Continuous National Household Sample Survey - Continuous PNAD" with employment and unemployment statistics in a monthly basis. |
usability | 3 | All data is provided in excel spreadsheets that are easy to work and analyze. |
collector_name | IBGE - Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística | The brazilian institute for geography and statistics is a federal government agency, associated with the brazilian ministry of planning, budget and management (Ministério do Planejamento, Orçamento e Gestão). |
characteristics | Gross Domestic Product, National unemployment, National population
location | https://www.ibge.gov.br/home/estatistica/indicadores/pib - Quarterly GDP from the quarterly national accounts, https://www.ibge.gov.br/home/estatistica/indicadores/tra - Monthly unemployment rates from the Continuous National Household Sample Survey, https://www.ibge.gov.br/home/estatistica/populacao/estim - Yearly Population estimates based on census, https://www.sidra.ibge.gov.br/ - All data from IBGE can also be downloaded through this system called SIDRA. But here you don't have access to the whole dataset., - | There are many ways to retrieve the same data in IBGE's website. And there are also the same data in other websites (from other institutions like the brazilian central bank of the brazilian institute for applied economic research). |
