Government Spending 65% open

Costa Rica

What data is expected?

Records of actual (past) national government spending at a detailed transactional level. Data must display ongoing expenditure, including transactions and subsidies. A database of contracts awarded or similar will not be considered sufficient. Open spending data shows whether public money is efficiently and effectively used. It helps to understand spending patterns, and to display corruption, misuse, and waste. We recommend that you consult our methodology section for more information.

  • Individual record of transactions
  • Government office which had the transaction
  • Date of transaction
  • Name of vendor
  • Amount of the transaction

findable_steps Looking for "public expenditure" or "government spending" in Google, the results only show the second link, directed to Ministry of Finance, in which only the expenditure data for the central government are found. There are also some results that lead to other sites with incomplete or outdated information. I acceded to the complete data because I knew of the transparency portal of the Contraloría General de la República, where the complete and updated data for all the public institutions is found (first link), but this one is not listed in the Google searches.

There are no published open data that contains all public procurement information with the required details, because there is no single public procurement system. In the information on the website of the Office of the Comptroller General of the Republic, you will find a list of purchase items but the details require you to review the attached documents one by one. The data found are of budget execution per account. This Submission was originally made by Susana Soto
